This light-filled modern kitchen was conceived as part of a complete refurbishment to our client’s duplex apartment, to which their architects created an additional third floor in the form of a mansard roof. The kitchen itself is situated on the second floor, which opens out to double height and is overlooked by a gallery from the newly built mansard level, maximizing the amount of natural light to the kitchen space.
Our brief was to create a contemporary kitchen designed to fit this relatively small footprint whilst taking full advantage of the room’s double height and eaves space. Our client also wanted to ensure plenty of work surfaces in order to minimize clutter and encourage tidiness. To this end we designed a lift-up Corian cover for the primary hob - our studio team fabricated a bespoke mechanism to allow the hob cover to lift with no resistance and close gradually, safely and silently. The Corian-covered hob offers a clear space when not in use and also doubles as a breakfast bar area or food preparation area. We introduced a secondary gas wok burner for everyday use, enabling our client to keep the primary hob concealed for the majority of the time.
There are no full height elevations in the design to keep the space from feeling closed in, while several open-sectioned upper units create an appearance of depth. All worktops, doors and panels are Corian-clad including a custom designed Corian door to the integrated wine cooler. Additional features include Corian splash backs throughout and an integrated Coran sink fitted with a bespoke lid and chopping board. The upper elevation units are all finished in custom-veneered oak.

“I had the pleasure of working with Jack Trench Ltd on our project at Crosby Row, London. They were commissioned by our client to develop the design of the kitchen, which needed to compliment the volume into which it was being placed. This they did with ease, developing a design, which not only understood our intent but which was made to an extremely high quality and executed with an attention to detail that was quite singular. Jack seemed to intuitively understand our design strategy and responded to the brief in in a way that required little modification. The information supplied to us to review, the sizes and detailing, was extremely comprehensive and thorough. This was the case in all communications throughout the period we worked together.
The components of the kitchen arrived on site and were installed without a hitch. This is testament not only to the accuracy of the site survey that formed the basis of their setting out drawings but also to the focus and understanding of their installation team. The kitchen was installed whilst site operations where being undertaken around them, causing no disruption.
We have now arrived at a finished project where the design sits seamlessly within our design, there have been no snagging issues and we have a very satisfied client.”
